You’re Not Crazy. You’re a Hista-Maniac.

Meaning:  “Hista” represents the out-of-control mast cells which produce chemicals called mediators.  These chemicals cause inflammation and chaos in the body.  “Maniacs” refers to the fact that many people think we are crazy.

People may think you’re imagining things. They don’t see how mold, chemicals, electronics—or even a simple whiff of perfume—can send your body into chaos. But I do. I’ve been there. And I’ve created this space as a lifeline for others like us.

Here you’ll find:

  • Education about MCAS and environmental triggers

  • Encouragement for when you feel hopeless or misunderstood

  • Empowerment to reclaim your health, faith, and future

Sir Isaac MastCell of Histamania

Meet the author

Rev. Dr. Sharon Kiesel

I’m a Hista-Maniac—and proud of it.

For over a decade, I’ve battled the invisible chaos of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). My body reacts to everything—mold, chemicals, even the environment itself.

But I refuse to give up.

With a Doctor of Ministry and a background in systems management, I’ve spent my life helping others navigate difficult transitions. Now, I use that experience to educate, encourage, and empower people like you—those dealing with chronic inflammation, feeling misunderstood, and searching for hope.

Alongside my husband of over 50 years. I travel full-time in an RV, proving that your diagnosis doesn’t have to define your destiny.

You are not crazy. You are not alone. You are a Hista-Maniac—and you’re stronger than you think.

My Mission:

To advocate for awareness and understanding of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) while inspiring and empowering those affected to embrace their fullest potential.

Ephesians 1: 18 says “so that you will know the hope to which God calls you.”

What Readers Are Saying

Hear from grateful individuals who have benefited from this book.

Sharon Kiesel’s “We React to Everything” is a refreshing and compassionate guide for anyone struggling with chronic inflammation, mast cell activation, or environmental sensitivities. As a physician who works with patients facing these very challenges, I appreciate how clearly, she explains complex ideas and, more importantly, how practical her suggestions are.
What I value most about this book is its balance. It offers real, actionable steps for reducing triggers in daily life, while also encouraging hope and resilience. Patients often feel isolated or overwhelmed by their reactions; Kiesel’s voice reminds them they’re not alone, and that meaningful improvements are possible.

Who knew that Mass Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) existed? I applaud Sharon L. Kiesel’s honest book as she shares her lived experience with it. I appreciated her detailed description of it in understandable terms for non-medical folks. Her timely advice on how to manage and live with it is compassionate. She also advocates for those who suffer from its debilitating effects. Further, she explains in understandable terms for non-medical folks just what is happening to “hista-maniacs” whose bodies are reacting to chronic inflammation. Lifestyle, diet, environment and building resiliency are all addressed in this book. I appreciated her focus on support systems and spirituality. She writes by engaging her audience; this book is not just a dry medical tone. She calls for all of us to be aware of those suffering from MCAS and to be proactive in providing a cleaner world for them. The Reference List in the back is invaluable. Hats off to Sharon L. Kiesel DMin for writing this insightful and educational book.

We React to Everything! is a very well written book about the multiple toxins we are exposed to and are confronted with daily. It offers a compelling blend of cutting-edge research review and practical wisdom, in a very readable format, on what to do about them. Sharon has masterfully translated the role of toxins in inflammation. The difficult concepts are explained in accessible language, making it engaging and entertaining for both novices and those familiar with the subject. It’s an excellent read for anyone seeking to recognize the science behind Toxic Triggers, how they are everywhere, and how to manage the damage they cause. I highly recommend for those curious about this very ignored topic in western medicine. From the information she provides and the easy-to-read presentation and format – this is a must read if you are a human.

Dr. Warren Willey,

DO, Functional Medicine Specialist

Sharon is someone who deals with oxalate, histamine and MCAS – as many of us do. She’s become passionate about helping others deal with histamine and MCAS related challenges, and even coined the term “Hista-maniacs” to describe those of us who need to have histamine reactions top of mind.
Her book is a very practical guide to how to reduce your reactions by understanding the stressors in your environment. It’s almost like a long checklist, but interspersed with some good context, current science in the field and personal experience. The idea is to make it simple for you to find and benefit from Sharon’s experience.
The book is also written from a strong faith perspective, that we can heal and we can help ourselves to do the best possible, wherever we find ourselves. While Sharon is a retired minister, the idea isn’t to convert you from your faith – but perhaps to build on it as part of our support system for our healing journey.
I am so grateful to Sharon that she calls out oxalate as the disrupter that it is! I have to wonder how many people are dealing with oxalate, and have an MCAS or histamine intolerance diagnosis, and simply think that they are doing something wrong – and that’s why they aren’t getting better.

The author was able to explain a very complicated condition in a way anyone can understand. Chronic Lyme, Long COVID, Epstein Barr, and so many other diagnoses are growing in number and few have received the help they need from our overburdened medical establishment. As someone who has worked in the medical field for decades, I can attest to the growing number of folks suffering from illnesses they cannot understand. After reading “We React to Everything”, one can begin to make sense of the body’s reactions. Very well written, helpful format, terrific references to medical studies and more. Everyone needs a copy – I’m sure you’ll see yourself or someone you love in these pages.

The author does a wonderful job of explaining and educating the reader on this difficult to understand subject matter. In my experience it is the folks who suffer from these conditions that have the best prospective on how to improve your health. They have already been through and know how to navigate the obstacles to healing. High praise for this book and I highly recommend it for patients suffering from MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and other topics covered in the book.
